Davenport Headlines

It is with great pleasure that we announce that

Lauren Ricci from the C. J. Davenport Elementary School,

has been selected as a WINNER of the 2018 AtlantiCare Healthy Educator Award.

As you may be aware, AtlantiCare Healthy Schools, Healthy Children has been providing Healthy Educator Awards for the past several years. Our goal is to recognize and acknowledge local educators that exemplify and instill healthy behaviors and attitudes with their

students and colleagues. All nominations were submitted to AtlantiCare by a school colleague, which is an honor in itself.

We are proud to be able to present this award to Lauren Ricci, as we know she is a most worthy recipient of this distinction.

Our selection team had an enormously difficult task in selecting only 9 educators to award this year, after receiving 28 nominations.

It will be our honor to present Lauren with an award check in the amount of $300.00 at the Awards Ceremony Dinner.

In addition, we will be providing the C. J. Davenport Elementary School with a matching award check in Lauren’s honor.

We hope your school will apply this to a health and wellness initiative in your district.

Youth Mental Health First Aid Certification
The course  was given at EHT High School on March 10th.

Last Saturday, forty Egg Harbor Township teachers and staff members gave their own time to become certified Youth Mental Health First Aid responders.  This 8-hour course taught these educators the signs and symptoms of various mental health challenges and how to get help for young people in need.  According to the National Alliance of Mental Health, twenty percent of youth ages 13 - 18 live with a mental health condition; therefore, this certification was highly relevant and extremely important.  The certification was offered through a non-profit organization, Spread the Love Foundation and taught by Mental Health First Aid instructors.

For more information or to become certified, please see the website http://www.mentalhealthfirstaid.org.

The next certification course in this area will be on April 28th.

Bubbles for Autism

On the afternoon of Wednesday, April 11th, the Davenport School Complex in the Egg Harbor Township School District held their own Bubbles for Autism event.  Egg Harbor Township is home to a large population of students with autism, many of them receiving their education at the Davenport Complex.  According to new statistics released by the National Institute of Health, Autism Spectrum Disorder now effects 1 in every 41 children nationwide, or 2.41% of all American children, up greatly from 1.47% of children in 2010.  Bubbles for Autism is an idea that began in 2003 with the goal of raising awareness for Autism Spectrum Disorder.  Davenport proudly continued this annual tradition in the presence of parents and other family members of students in the autism program.  The entire school of staff and students attended the event, which was held outside on the blacktop.  Davenport embraces and celebrates its diversity and at Wednesday's event all of the smiling faces made this evident.
